SKILL 7: USE ADVERB TIME AND CAUSE CONNECTORS CORRECTLY

Kalimat dengan klausa keterangan mempunyai dua pola. Pelajari klausa dan kata penghubung pada kalimat berikut:

I will sign the check before you leave.

Before you leave, I will sign the check.

Terdapat dua klausa pada masing-masing contoh kalimat diatas: you leave dan I will sign the check, dan klausa you leave adalah keterangan waktu karena memiliki kata penghubung before. Pada contoh pertama, kata penghubung before berada di tengah kalimat dan tidak menggunakan tanda koma (,). Pada contoh kedua, kata penghubung before berada di awal kalimat. Ketika kata penghubung berada di awal kalimat, tanda koma (,) diperlukan pada tengah kalimat.

Dalam contoh kalimat diatas terdapat verb (was) yang memerlukan subjek. Terdapat juga klausa lain I missed the appointment. Jawaban (A) dan (C) memiliki subjek yang cocok dengan was, tetapi tidak ada kata penghubung yang diperlukan untuk menghubungkan kedua klausa. Jawaban (B) juga tidak tepat karena tidak memiliki subjek untuk verbnya (was). Jawaban (D) adalah jawaban yang paling tepat karena memiliki subjek (he) yang cocok dengan verb (was) dan memiliki kata penghubung (since) untuk menghubungkan kedua klausa.
